A body looks different lying still than it does turning, flexing, contracting and moving.
For many appropriately selected gynecomastia and body-contouring procedures, Dr. Jonathan Lebowitz performs surgery under local anesthesia while the patient remains responsive.
That can give him something especially valuable during high-definition sculpting: the ability to reposition the patient, activate the underlying muscles and reassess the developing contour from different angles before the procedure is finished.
When the procedure and patient are appropriate for local anesthesia, he may be able to examine the contour dynamically as the body changes position and the muscles contract.

High-definition body contouring is built around existing anatomy. The chest, abdomen, arms, waist and back all change as muscles contract and the body moves. Keeping an appropriately selected patient responsive can give Dr. Lebowitz another way to judge those relationships during surgery.
Direct Communication
The patient can remain responsive during appropriately selected procedures, allowing Dr. Lebowitz to communicate throughout portions of the operation.
Repositioning
Flanks, back, arms, chest and other contours can change significantly with position. Repositioning may reveal transitions that are less obvious when the body remains completely still.
Muscle Activation
Flexing or contracting selected muscles can make the underlying anatomy more apparent and help Dr. Lebowitz assess how the developing contour relates to it.
Real-Time Reassessment
Rather than relying on a single static position, Dr. Lebowitz can repeatedly compare contour, symmetry and definition as the procedure progresses.
The Muscle Is the Blueprint.
VASER does not create muscles that are not there. Gynecomastia surgery does not manufacture a new chest. The goal is to work with the anatomy the patient already has.
When Dr. Lebowitz can see how that anatomy changes during contraction and movement, he can use those observations as part of his judgment about where additional reduction, blending or refinement may be appropriate.
