Male Chest Contouring by Dr. Jonathan Lebowitz
A Flatter, More Defined Chest Starts With the Right Plan
Gynecomastia can affect the shape of the male chest in many different ways. For some men, the concern is a firm gland beneath the nipple. For others, it may be excess fat, puffy nipples, loose skin, asymmetry or a combination of several factors.
That is why Dr. Jonathan Lebowitz does not approach gynecomastia as a one-size-fits-all operation. With more than 30 years of surgical experience and an extensive focus on male chest and body contouring, he evaluates the entire chest and develops a treatment plan around the individual patient’s anatomy, physique and goals.
The objective is bigger than simply removing tissue. It is about creating a chest that looks flatter, stronger, more balanced and more natural for the man wearing it.
Understanding the Male Chest
Gynecomastia Is More Than Just Chest Fat
Gynecomastia refers to enlargement of the male breast and commonly involves true glandular breast tissue. But the visible appearance of the chest can also be influenced by localized fat, skin quality, nipple projection, the size and position of the areola, muscular development and overall body composition.
Two men can walk into Dr. Lebowitz’s office with what appears to be the same concern and require very different treatment plans.
Dense Glandular Tissue
A firm breast gland may sit directly beneath the nipple and areola, creating projection that often cannot be adequately corrected with liposuction alone.
Excess Chest Fat
Localized fat can add fullness across the chest and surrounding torso, sometimes occurring alone and sometimes together with glandular tissue.
Puffy Nipples
Even a relatively small amount of tissue beneath the areola can create a rounded or protruding nipple that becomes especially noticeable through fitted clothing.
Chest Shape & Definition
The relationship between the breast tissue, pectoral muscle, surrounding fat and skin all contributes to the final appearance of the male chest.
Your Chest. Your Anatomy. Your Plan.
An Individualized Approach to Gynecomastia Surgery
Dr. Lebowitz begins by looking at the chest as a whole. He evaluates where the fullness begins and ends, how much is gland versus fat, the quality of the skin, the shape of the pectoral muscles, nipple and areola position, asymmetry and how the chest transitions into the abdomen, flanks and upper body.
From there, he determines which techniques may be appropriate. Some patients primarily need gland removal. Others benefit from VASER 4D Hi-Def liposculpting. Many require a combination of techniques to reduce unwanted volume while also refining the surrounding chest.
The Goal
Not Simply a Smaller Chest — a Better Male Chest Contour
Successful male chest contouring requires attention to proportion and shape, not just volume. Dr. Lebowitz’s approach is designed around creating a chest that complements the patient’s natural frame and physique rather than simply removing as much tissue as possible.
Treatment Options
How Gynecomastia May Be Corrected
The surgical plan depends on what is actually causing the chest enlargement. Dr. Lebowitz may use one technique or combine several approaches during the same treatment.
Gynecomastia Gland Removal
Dense male breast gland can require direct surgical removal. Careful gland excision can reduce projection beneath the nipple and play an important role in creating a flatter chest contour.
VASER 4D Hi-Def Liposculpting
When excess fat and surrounding chest contour are part of the concern, VASER liposculpting may be used to reduce localized fat and refine the transitions around the male chest.
Puffy Nipple Correction
Localized tissue beneath the nipple and areola can create a puffy or protruding appearance even in otherwise lean men. Treatment is tailored to the anatomy creating that projection.
Male Breast Reduction
Men with more significant breast volume may require a broader reduction and contouring approach to address gland, fat, skin and overall chest proportions.
Different Patients. Different Priorities.
Gynecomastia Treatment for Different Ages & Physiques
Gynecomastia can affect teenagers, adults, athletes and bodybuilders alike. The underlying concern may be similar, but the desired chest shape and the level of contouring can be very different.
Specialized Male Chest Concerns
More Than One Type of Gynecomastia
The right diagnosis matters. Dr. Lebowitz also treats more specialized chest concerns and patients who have undergone previous surgery elsewhere.
Pseudogynecomastia
Male chest enlargement caused predominantly by fatty tissue rather than a dense breast gland.
Inverted Nipple Correction
Correction of an inverted nipple either alone or as part of a broader male chest treatment plan.
Revision Gynecomastia Surgery
For men seeking improvement after previous surgery, including residual tissue, asymmetry, depressions and contour irregularities.
Gynecomastia Surgery Under Local Anesthesia
For Dr. Lebowitz, local anesthesia is more than an anesthetic choice.
Dr. Lebowitz specializes in performing many gynecomastia and male body-contouring procedures with the patient awake under local anesthesia in his private surgical setting in Huntington, Long Island, NY. Because you remain responsive during the procedure, he can evaluate your chest and surrounding anatomy dynamically rather than relying on a single static position.
He can ask you to raise and reposition your arms, twist, turn, flex your chest and contract specific muscle groups while he evaluates the developing contour. Seeing the chest in motion and under active muscle contraction helps him assess how the skin, remaining tissue and underlying musculature interact from different angles and positions.
This allows Dr. Lebowitz to continually reassess and refine the contour as he works — removing unwanted fullness, defining transitions and revealing the underlying muscular anatomy to create a more athletic, powerful and distinctly masculine chest.
Local anesthesia is not appropriate for every patient or every procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Lebowitz will determine the anesthetic and surgical approach he considers appropriate for your anatomy, treatment plan and overall needs.
